Privacy Policy — Guru Mantras

Last updated: 17 September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Guru Mantras mobile application ("the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, stores, and shares your information. We have written it in plain language. The short version: the App is built device-first — most of your data lives on your own phone. A copy of your profile and activity is backed up to our cloud (Google Firebase) so you can restore it on a new device, and small pieces of data are sent to a few service providers only when needed to power a specific feature. We do not show ads and we do not sell your personal information.

1. Information We Collect

CategoryDataWhy we need it
Your profile & birth details Full name, date of birth, time of birth, place of birth (city/state/country), gender To calculate your Vedic astrology chart, dosha (constitution), daily guidance, and personalized content
Account credentials Email address and a password To create your cloud-backup account (Firebase Authentication) so your data can be restored on another device. We never see or store your password in readable form — it is handled by Firebase Authentication.
Family members' details (optional) If you use the Family feature: each family member's name, relationship to you, date of birth, time of birth, and birth city To compute each family member's astrology snapshot and daily reading. Their raw birth details (date, time, and city of birth) stay on your device only and are never uploaded to our servers. To generate a family member's daily reading, their first name, relationship, and astrology-derived summaries (such as moon sign and current planetary period, computed on your device from their birth details) are processed by our AI provider (Google Gemini, via our secure server) in the same way as your own readings — this content is used only to generate the reading and is not used to identify them. Because this is personal information about other people, please add family members only with their knowledge and agreement (or as their parent/guardian).
Activity data Meditation sessions (mantra, duration, bead count, dates, streaks), your practice log (breathing/pranayama and other practice sessions, and the music you listen to in the App — for each one, its name, how many minutes it lasted, and the date), daily habit check-in answers (e.g. hours slept; yes/no answers about movement, fruit, reading, work), reflections, and your in-app settings/preferences To show your progress, generate your weekly reflection report, and personalize reminders and content
AI conversation & guidance content Messages you type to the in-app "GuruDev" AI guide, plus context the App assembles for AI features — such as your first name, age, astrology-derived details (rashi, nakshatra, dasha), recent habit answers, a summary of your meditation and breathing practice (session counts, minutes, and streaks), the text of any sankalpa (intention) or lakshya (goal) you have set in the App, your recent mood check-ins and any short note you attached to them, topics of past GuruDev conversations, brief notes GuruDev keeps from your past conversations (stored only on your device, viewable and deletable in the app), and (if you granted location permission) your current city name and a short local weather summary To generate your spiritual/wellness guidance, daily readings, wisdom questions, and the weekly report. The App asks your permission before any of this is sent. If you choose "Use without AI", or later turn off "AI-written guidance" in Settings, none of it is sent to our AI provider (Google Gemini): GuruDev does not reply, and your readings, reminders and weekly letter use the App's own written content. Your choice is kept on your device, and you are asked again after you sign out, reset your profile or delete your account.
Approximate location (optional) Your device's coarse (city-level) location — only if you grant location permission. The App deliberately does not request precise location. To fetch your current local weather for the daily "Cosmic Weather" reading and to name your current city. Your coordinates are cached on your device only (also used offline to compute the day's auspicious-time window) and are sent to the weather service to return current conditions, and to your device's built-in geocoding service (provided by your phone's operating system) to name your city — your coordinates are never stored on our servers. The city name derived from them, together with the short weather summary, is included in the context sent to our AI provider so your daily guidance can mention your local conditions (see the "AI conversation & guidance content" row above). If you decline, these features simply run on your astrology alone.
Subscription & purchase status Whether you hold an active Guru Mantras Premium subscription, which plan (monthly or yearly), its renewal/expiry dates, and the purchase token Google Play issues for it, together with a pseudonymous app-user identifier generated by our subscription provider To unlock premium features on every device you sign in on, to restore purchases, and to know when a subscription renews or lapses. We never see or receive your card, UPI, or bank details — payment is handled entirely by Google Play (see Section 3).
Crash & diagnostic reports If the App crashes or hits an unexpected error: the error and its technical stack trace, the App version and build, your device model, operating-system version and language, a randomly generated install identifier, the recent in-app screens/actions leading up to the error, and the IP address the report was sent from To find and fix crashes. Collected automatically in the released App — see Section 4.

The App does not collect your contacts, photos, microphone audio, or device advertising identifiers, and it shows no third-party ads.

Reminders and notifications. Most reminders are still scheduled locally on your device. Some of your daily reminders are delivered instead as a push message, because Android's battery-saving mode holds locally scheduled alarms back and can release several hours late, all at once. To send those, your device registers a push token (Firebase Cloud Messaging) with our server and uploads, in advance, the reminder text it has already composed on-device — for example the line naming today's practice — along with the delivery time and a random device identifier. This is stored only until the reminder is sent (short-lived, then automatically deleted) and is used for nothing else. You can turn reminders off in Settings, and you can revoke notification permission in your phone's settings at any time.

2. Where Your Information Is Stored

3. Service Providers We Share Data With

To power specific features, limited data is sent to the following processors. Requests to AI and research providers are routed through our own secure server function (Google Cloud Functions), so API credentials and traffic stay under our control. We send each provider only what the feature needs, and none of them are permitted to use your data for advertising.

ProviderWhat is sharedPurpose
Google Firebase (Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging) Account email + password (Authentication), the cloud backup described in Section 2, and the push token + pending reminder text described in Section 1 Cloud storage, sign-in, backup/restore, securely relaying AI requests, and delivering reminders on time
Google Gemini (AI) Your GuruDev messages and the AI context described in Section 1 (first name, age, astrology-derived details, habit and meditation-practice summaries, sankalpa/lakshya text, recent mood check-ins and any short note you attached to them, topics of past GuruDev conversations, brief notes GuruDev keeps from your past conversations, current city name and weather summary) To generate personalized guidance, daily readings, and the weekly report. Sent only if you allow AI in the App (see Section 1). Processed to answer the request; not used by us to build advertising profiles.
Sarvam AI (text-to-speech) The text to be spoken aloud. With AI allowed, this can include a reading written for you that uses your first name, and the sankalpa you typed when the morning journey reads it back to you. To produce voice narration for meditations, teachings, and stories
Tavily (web research) No personal data — only our own subject keywords for the shared daily story To source the real-world stories shown to everyone in the daily feed
Open-Meteo (weather) Your approximate coordinates — only if you granted location permission To return your current local weather for the Cosmic Weather reading
Cloudflare (media delivery) Standard network information (such as your IP address) when the App streams music or narration audio from our content network To deliver the App's audio library quickly and reliably. No profile or activity data is sent.
Google Play Billing (payments; Apple App Store on iPhone) Your payment details are given to the store, not to us. We receive only the outcome — that a purchase succeeded, which plan, and its renewal/expiry dates. To take payment for Guru Mantras Premium and to renew or cancel it
RevenueCat (subscription management) The purchase token issued by Google Play, a pseudonymous app-user identifier for your install, and your subscription's plan and status. No card details, and no name, birth details, habits, or chat content. To verify your purchase with Google Play and keep your premium access correct across devices and reinstalls
Sentry (crash reporting) The crash and diagnostic data listed in Section 1, including the IP address the report is sent from To detect, diagnose, and fix crashes and errors in the App — see Section 4

These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not share it with data brokers.

Subscriptions and payments

Guru Mantras offers an optional paid subscription, Guru Mantras Premium, with a monthly and a yearly plan. Everything about the payment itself is handled by Google Play under your own Google account: you enter your payment method there, Google charges and renews it, and you manage or cancel it in Play Store → Payments & subscriptions. (On iPhone the same is true of the Apple App Store, under your Apple Account.) Guru Mantras never sees, receives, or stores your card, UPI, or bank details.

To know whether your subscription is active — including after you reinstall or sign in on a new phone — we use RevenueCat as our subscription-management processor. When you subscribe or restore a purchase, the App sends RevenueCat the purchase token Google Play issued and a pseudonymous app-user identifier for your install; RevenueCat verifies the token with Google Play and returns your plan and its status. That is all it receives: no payment details, and none of your name, birth details, habit answers, or GuruDev conversations. RevenueCat processes this data as our service provider, under its own privacy policy.

Records of a purchase (such as the transaction and the dates it covers) are kept by Google Play and RevenueCat for as long as they need them for billing, tax, and dispute purposes, even after you delete your Guru Mantras account — we cannot delete another company's billing records on your behalf. Deleting your account (Section 6) does not cancel an active subscription; cancel it in the Play Store.

4. Crash Reports & Diagnostics

The released App includes Sentry, a crash-reporting service. When the App crashes or hits an unexpected error, Sentry automatically sends a report so we can fix it. A report contains the technical error and stack trace, the App version and build, your device model, operating-system version and language, a randomly generated install identifier, and a short trail of the screens and taps immediately before the error. Sentry also receives the IP address the report was sent from, and a small sample of anonymous performance measurements (how long screens take to load).

We do not deliberately attach your name, email, birth details, habit answers, or GuruDev conversations to crash reports. Diagnostic data is used only to keep the App working — never for advertising or profiling — and is held by Sentry on our behalf only for a limited retention period before it is deleted automatically. Crash reporting is disabled entirely in development builds.

5. Data Retention

6. Deleting Your Data

You can permanently delete your data at any time:

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it. If you add a child family member to the Family feature, their raw birth details stay on your device only (their first name and astrology-derived summaries are processed by our AI provider solely to generate readings, as described in Section 1), and you must be the child's parent or guardian.

8. Important: Not Medical, Financial, or Professional Advice

Guru Mantras offers spiritual, cultural, and lifestyle content — astrology readings, meditation, mantras, music, and gentle habit reflections — for personal well-being and reflection. The App is not a medical device and its content is not medical, psychological, financial, or legal advice. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. Always consult a qualified professional for health or other important decisions.

9. Security

Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Sign-in and passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication, and your cloud document is protected by security rules that restrict it to your signed-in account. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
